We love reading!

We love reading in reception. We have story time every day at 3 o'clock as well as enjoying stories in our cosy book corner throughout the day.

We go to the library every Friday and choose a book to take home and share with our families and friends.

We have a reading challenge board to encourage sharing our school reading book at home. For every 10 reads we are able to choose a prize from our class treasure box.

Six dinner Sid

We also have a class cat called Sid. We take it in turns to take Sid home, share his story and write about our special time with Sid in his book.

Sid's big return!

Sid has returned from his holiday, with lots of exciting news and information about his adventures.

He has now started to come home with the children again to share his experiences and create new ones with the children.

This term we are asking the children to write on a postcard explaining what they have done with Sid and where they have been, using their phonetic knowledge.

Look out for him coming home with your child!

One Snowy Thursday ...

We have had a great day in Reception today, enjoying and exploring the snow out on the field, we even brought the snow inside!  We have done lots of choosing and enjoyed hot chocolate and a film together.

Bits and Bobs

We gathered together some loose parts, including lids, string, nails, screws, washers and lots more....

We  used them to create our own 3D pictures and used the iPad to record what we had made.

R Cherry

A new class has arrived at Parkdale! We created the new class R Cherry for the children to role play as teachers and students, which they love to do. The classroom is a replica of R Holly and R Bay displaying many of the items the children are familiar with in their daily school life. It includes phonics flashcards, a number line, whiteboards and pens, registers, dinner register and their very own mini Sid.

R Cherry was formally opened in a ceremony on the 12th February by our very own celebrity Mr Hillier (see the video below smiley) . It has been a very popular area and the children are engaging in some imaginative role play, even taken on the roles of teachers in Reception!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been very busy, turning our house outside into the three bears cottage, creating wanted posters on the computers and researching and recording bear facts. We also invited our teddies to come to school with us on Friday, we had a lovely day with them and took them to the library to read to them.

The secret writers group went to year 2 again with Miss Desborough and Miss Ward to use their knowledge of bears to label a bear picture. Mrs Foxall was so proud and amazed with our beautiful writing and how we used our knowledge of phonics to independently write the labels.

Take a look at our amazing work!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

We have been learning about The Three Billy Goats Gruff .

The secret writers went on a visit to year 2 again to label some goats, giving them to Mrs Foxall as a surprise.  She was amazed! Take a look at our fantastic goats below.

We also learnt about bridges and talked about the troll in the story. We made our own bridges in the environment both indoors and outdoors. Some of the children starred in their own production of The Three Billy Goats Gruff,  selling and making tickets for the event. It was a fabulous show!

We also used the computers in the ICT suite to create our own pictures of the goats.

We are looking forward to learning about  Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs.

The Gingerbread man

We have started this term by learning about The Gingerbread man.

Some of us went to year 2 to do some special writing about the gingerbread man story. The room even smelt of gingerbread, delicious!

We also made our very own gingerbread men! Talking about the ingredients required and the method to make them.

We also used the computers in the ICT suite to create our own pictures of the cheeky character.

We are looking forward to learning about The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs.

We've started the new term with our people who help us topic. Today we had an exciting visitor....
