Welcome to Reception - R Holly and R Bay!
We are now in the spring term and we are excited about all the fun things we have planned (especially the pancakes, yum)!
We have begun doing lots of fun activities and planning adventures relating to our new topic in Reception Getting Along and Fairness.
We have been learning about differences, equality, tolerance and sharing, with lots more still to come.
We are continuing our visits to Forest School, we go on Thursday mornings to our fellow Transform school Edale Rise.
We will fill this page with exciting class news, pictures of things that we have done, and website ideas for you to use at home! However our classroom is always being updated with our newest discoveries so come and check it out!
Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let your teacher know!
Have you seen the Children's Zone? Play games, and visit some cool websites.
Keep checking here to see what we have been up to.
Please remember that children should bring a water bottle into the class which they can drink throughout the day.
Don't forget to label them clearly with their name!
We aim to change each child's reading book once a week, however this is dependent on events and timetabled activities during the week. We ask that your child brings their book in EVERYDAY to ensure we can read with them and issue them a new book. It is important that your child has their book bag everyday for us to put letters and important information. Don't forget to check your child's tray!
On FRIDAY your child will have the opportunity to change their library book. Please ensure they bring their book in to avoid disappointment.
Both Holly and Bay have PE on TUESDAY AND FRIDAYS.
Tuesdays we do yoga and Fridays we have Major Oak to lead our sessions.
Children should bring their kit and keep it on their pegs for the week. Please can we also ask all earrings (and any other jewellery items) are removed on these days prior to school.
PE kits should include: a PE t-shirt (in the colour of your child's house), black PE shorts and black plimsolls.
PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S CLOTHES CLEARLY.
Materials and Activities in case of School Closures/Self Isolation
Please find below the fabulous resources we have adapted from another school's brilliant work. We have also linked our own homepack whicn we have sent home with all children. In the event of School Closure please check back here regularly and use our Facebook page for live videos and updates.
We love reading in reception. We have story time every day at 3 o'clock as well as enjoying stories in our cosy book corner throughout the day. We have also introduced a snuggle up and read session on Wednesdays before school. Parents can stay for 15 mins and share a story with their child. Last Wednesday to launch our new 'Snuggle up and Read' we came to school in our Pyjamas all day! We had such a cosy time.
We go to the library every Friday and choose a book to take home and share with our families and friends.
We have a reading challenge board to encourage sharing our school reading book at home. For every 10 reads we are able to choose a prize from our class treasure box.
We also have a class cat called Sid. We take it in turns to take Sid home, share his story and write about our special time with Sid in his book.
Parkdale Speech and Language
Speech, Language and Communication skills are vital for children to reach their full potential in life. Families are most mportant in helping children to develop these skills which affect so many areas of life-
*Joining in at home and at school
*Making choices and dealing with change
We have a specialist Speech and Language Therapist from the Nottinghamshire Sold Service team working with us each Thursday at Parkdale Primary School. Holly Godley works across the school to help identified children in need further speech and language support. She also supports staff through training.
Holly is available each Thursday to answer any questions you may have regarding your child's speech, language and communication development.
Please visit our page to find out ways we are supporting children's language development in school and look out for top tips and ideas for you to use at home!

Language for life
Here are our new Guinea Pigs! We love having them in the unit and are really good at looking after them. We had a vote to decide on their names so watch this space, their names will be revealed soon.
Over the past term we have been going to forest school! We have had lots of fun exploring the environment, investigating nature and observing the seasonal changes. We also had a special visitor, our forest school mascot, Hedwig. He has been helping us on our adventures and showing us all about where he lives.
We have now started going again!
Our First School Trip to the Orchard
In November we went on our first school trip to St Ann's Community Orchard. We couldn't believe our eyes when we met Percy the Park keeper and his animal friends!
We worked really hard to build new homes for the animals and enjoyed our adventure in the woods. We even went to Percy's house and had a cosy chat by the fire, whilst we listened to Percy tell us all about his exciting adventures. We finished our exciting day off by watching Jen make popcorn on the fire, it was tasty! We washed our popcorn down with some delicious hot chocolate that Percy has made for us. We cannot wait to go again!
We love maths!
We have been learning lots about numbers and shapes this term in fun, new ways. We are maths wizards and love completing the challenges set for us by the wizard in charge.
