Welcome to Reception - R Holly and R Bay!
We are now in the Summer term and are looking forward to continuing our learning.
We have lots of fun activities planned relating to our topic 'Living things and the World'
We will fill this page with exciting class news, pictures of things that we have done, and website ideas for you to use at home!
Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let your teacher know!
Have you seen the Children's Zone? Play games, and visit some cool websites.
Keep checking here to see what we have been up to.
Please remember that children should bring a water bottle in to the class which they can drink over the day. Thank you
We aim to change each child's reading book once a week, however this is depending on events and timetabled activity during the week. We ask that your child brings their book in EVERYDAY to ensure we can read with them and issue them a new book.
On FRIDAY your child will have the opportunity to change their library book. Please ensure they bring their book in to avoid disappointment.
Both Holly and Bay have PE on WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS.
Children should bring their kit and keep it on their pegs for the week. Please can we also ask all earrings (and any other jewellery items) are removed on these days prior to school.
PE kits should include: a PE t-shirt (in the colour of your child's house), black PE shorts and black plimsolls.
Please label all of your child's clothes clearly.
We love reading in reception. We have story time every day at 3 o'clock as well as enjoying stories in our cosy book corner throughout the day.
We go to the library every Friday and choose a book to take home and share with our families and friends.
We have a reading challenge board to encourage sharing our school reading book at home. For every 10 reads we are able to choose a prize from our class treasure box.
We also have a class cat called Sid. We take it in turns to take Sid home, share his story and write about our special time with Sid in his book.
Parkdale Speech and Language
Speech, Language and Communication skills are vital for children to reach their full potential in life. Families are most mportant in helping children to develop these skills which affect so many areas of life-
*Joining in at home and at school
*Making choices and dealing with change
We have a specialist Speech and Language Therapist from the Nottinghamshire Sold Service team working with us each Thursday at Parkdale Primary School. Holly Godley works across the school to help identified children in need further speech and language support. She also supports staff through training.
Holly is available each Thursday to answer any questions you may have regarding your child's speech, language and communication development.
Please visit our page to find out ways we are supporting children's language development in school and look out for top tips and ideas for you to use at home!

Language for life
We love maths!
We have been learning lots about numbers and shapes this term in fun, new ways. We are maths wizards and love completing the challenges set for us by the wizard in charge.
Our Trip to the Postbox!
Our topic this term was 'people who help us'. We have had lots of fun learning in the Post Office role play area in our classroom.
We have also learnt about the journey of a letter, creating Christmas cards and posting them in the postbox near school. We couldn't wait to receive them!
A Reception Christmas
Over the Christmas period we have been very busy! We were all superstars in our Reception nativity and our Teachers were really proud of us all.
We also went to our local church where we performed our nativity to the children form the playgroup and participated in a Christingle led by Reverend Amanda.
We have been observing the changes through the seasons. We love spring time, and we have been using the iPads to take pictures of the signs of spring. We collated them into collages and really enjoyed showing our friends.
We have also been doing some observational drawing of flowers using oil pastels.
