Welcome to Year 1
Palm and Chestnut!
We would like to introduce you to the year 1 team:
Mrs Stafford - 1 Chestnut Class Teacher
Mrs Chalmers - 1 Palm Class Teacher
Mrs Hutchins, Mrs Drury, Miss Brooks and Mrs Baker - Year 1 TAs.
This spring we are beginning our topic of 'Dreams of Freedom' focusing on children's human rights and learning about key people in history including Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. After half term children will be learning about their local area and the topic of 'Robin Hood'
Remember it is especially important to read regularly and practise your phoneme recognition. Be like a detective and try to spot them in your reading books! Also practise your spelling word lists as well as counting in ones - both forward and backwards!
Don't forget to choose 3 things to attempt for this half term from our homework menu - which you can find below.
This year, we have been seeing and sharing some wonderfully creative ways that you have interpreted the homework tasks.
So keep it up and let's look forward to sharing lots of the fab things that you have been up to!

Please remember that children should bring water, in a water bottle, which they can drink throughout the day.
This should be taken home, washed and refilled daily. Thank you.
Both Palm and Chestnut have outdoor PE on Wednesdays.
Indoor PE is now on Fridays for both Palm and Chestnut.
Children should bring their kit and keep it on their pegs for the week.
Please can we also ask all earrings (plus any other jewellery items) are removed prior to school on these days .
All the children will have the opportunity to visit the library and change their library books.
Both classes will visit the library on Thursdays.
Please ensure they bring their book in daily to avoid disappointment.
